About this temple
Vighneshwar at Ozar is the Kukadi-side Ashtavinayak shrine in Junnar taluka of Pune district. Its gilded pinnacle, lamp towers and association with the demon Vighnasura give it a distinct place in the circuit, usually visited before Ranjangaon.
History
State tourism associates substantial embellishment with Chimaji Appa after the Vasai campaign. Other guides give 1785 construction and later rebuilding, so those dates should not be collapsed into one patron’s action. The reviewed material supports successive temple phases rather than one unambiguous foundation year.
Legends & Religious Traditions
Vighnasura disrupts sacred rites until Ganesha subdues him. The repentant demon asks to have his name associated with Ganesha, giving the Vighneshwar/Vighnahar tradition its meaning of mastering or removing obstacles.
Architecture / Physical Features
State tourism describes a gilded pinnacle, an ornate entrance and stone deepmalas. Siddhi and Riddhi accompany the left-trunked Ganesha image.
Festivals and Religious Significance
Ganesh Chaturthi and Maghi Ganesh Jayanti are prominent. Kartik Purnima is associated with illumination of the lamp towers.
How to Reach
Ozar is approached from the Narayangaon–Junnar region. The Kukadi riverside setting belongs to this shrine and should not be confused with the Bhima-side Siddhatek temple.
Nearby Religious Places
Lenyadri’s Girijatmaj cave shrine is another Ashtavinayak stop in the Junnar region. Its ascent requires separate time and effort.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations
Chimaji Appa’s Vasai-related gilding tradition and a later 1785 construction date appear in different accounts. A guide that attributes an 1785 act directly to Chimaji requires chronological checking, not blind repetition. Vighneshwar, Vigneshwara and Vighnahar are names for the same Ozar shrine.
