About this temple
Sita Samahit Sthal at Sitamarhi, Bhadohi, stands beside the Ganga and is revered in local Ramayana tradition as the place of Sita’s return to the earth. A towering Hanuman image is a prominent landmark.
History
The present temple’s website credits its establishment to the efforts of Satya Narain Prakash Punj and the inspiration of Swami Jitendranand Tirth. This modern building history is distinct from the sacred events associated with the site.
Legends & Religious Traditions
Local Ramayana tradition identifies Sitamarhi with Sita’s stay at Valmiki’s ashram, the birth and upbringing of Luv and Kush, and her final return to Mother Earth. The temple presents these associations as its sacred origin; they are not independently established archaeological identifications.
Architecture / Physical Features
The complex includes Sita and Shiva temples and a large Hanuman image above a cave shrine.
Rituals, Worship and Seva
Deepanjali, the offering of lamps, is highlighted by the temple as a devotional observance.
How to Reach
The district places Sitamarhi about 11 km from Jangiganj on the Grand Trunk Road.
Pilgrim Facilities and Accommodation
The temple trust advertises guest accommodation with air-cooled and AC options and a vegetarian restaurant. Confirm availability, room type and current charges when booking.
Address and Location Details
Sita Samahit Sthal, Village and Post Sitamarhi, Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh 221309, India.
Contradictory Accounts and Variations
The district describes the Hanuman image as 110 feet high; the temple website gives 108 feet and separately describes a 20-foot rock base. These differing published measurements are retained without assuming they use the same measuring convention. No current world-height ranking is asserted. This is Sitamarhi in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, distinct from Sitamarhi in Bihar. Other pilgrimage traditions also identify different places with Sita’s return into the earth.
