Sampath Vinayagar Templeसंपत विनायगर मंदिर

Sampath Vinayagar is a compact urban Ganesha shrine at Asilmetta. Its modern business-premises origin, the Kanchi pontiff’s association and the remembered 1971 naval vow distinguish its history from that of ancient regional temples.

About this temple

Sampath Vinayagar is a compact urban Ganesha shrine at Asilmetta. Its modern business-premises origin, the Kanchi pontiff’s association and the remembered 1971 naval vow distinguish its history from that of ancient regional temples.

History

The shrine was established in 1962 by T. S. Rajeswaran and T. S. Selva Ganeshan in the setting of S. G. Sambandam and Company. A local historical report describes its origin in resolving a vastu concern. In 1967, Kanchi’s Chandrasekharendra Saraswati is reported to have installed a Ganapati yantra. These dates describe the shrine’s modern development, not an ancient foundation.

Legends & Religious Traditions

The vastu beginning
The founding account connects the shrine with a concern about the company premises’ vastu. That is the remembered devotional motivation; it does not establish a scientifically measured influence of building orientation.

The Kanchi yantra
The 1967 installation associated with Chandrasekharendra Saraswati is remembered as a turning point in the shrine’s prominence. The yantra’s religious significance is distinct from the original 1962 establishment.

Admiral Krishnan and 1,001 coconuts
Local accounts connect the temple with Admiral Krishnan’s offering of 1,001 coconuts during the 1971 war and the loss of the Pakistani submarine Ghazi off Visakhapatnam. Retellings differ over whether the offering was a prayer before danger or thanksgiving afterwards. The devotional association should not be presented as a demonstrated cause of the submarine’s sinking.

Rituals, Worship and Seva

Vehicle blessings and prayers at the start of business activity are closely associated with this city shrine. The local report describes shopkeepers placing their keys before Vinayaka; this is a devotional custom, not a guarantee of commercial success.

How to Reach

Travel within Visakhapatnam to Asilmetta and the Uplands Road area. This is a street-side city temple, separate from the Beach Road Kali shrine and the harbour hill temples.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations

The 1971 coconut offering is variously described as protection-seeking and thanksgiving. Both are retained as versions of a local memory; no military-causation claim is made. Online listings disagree about official websites and booking, so no payment or booking route is asserted without verification.
