About this temple
The BAPS shikharbaddh mandir at Athal stands beside the Daman Ganga on a landscaped site. Its carved stone galleries, domes and shikharas form the present complex, consecrated in May 2013. The attached realistic architectural image is an AI illustration based on an actual exterior reference, not a photograph.
History
BAPS records the opening celebrations from 10–13 May 2013 and identifies 13 May as the murti-pratishtha day. Pramukh Swami Maharaj had ritually sanctified the murtis in Ahmedabad on 7 February 2013; their installation in Silvassa was a separate event. The institutional narrative places the project within decades of regional satsang and community participation.
Legends & Religious Traditions
The remembered foundation is modern
The supported story is the growth of a Swaminarayan community and the service of devotees in creating this mandir, rather than an ancient buried-image discovery. BAPS links the project with Pramukh Swami Maharaj and the work of its sadhus in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The procession and consecration
On 12 May 2013 a Vishvashanti Mahayag and a procession carried the sacred murtis through Silvassa. On 13 May senior sadhus installed the murtis in their shrines, followed by aarti and annakut. These are dated institutional events.
Akshar-Purushottam worship
Swaminarayan and Gunatitanand Swami are worshipped together in the central theological pairing. The guru lineage and other deity shrines express this tradition; they should not be conflated with a generic Vishnu temple foundation legend.
Establishment / Consecration and Dating
Murti-pratishtha at Silvassa: 13 May 2013. Earlier ritual sanctification of the murtis: 7 February 2013 in Ahmedabad. These should not be presented as contradictory dates.
Architecture / Physical Features
The institutional opening report describes a 15-acre riverbank site. Carved pink-toned stone, pillared galleries, ornamental domes, shikharas and gardens distinguish the complex.
Festivals and Religious Significance
Recent BAPS local news records Hindola, Diwali and Annakut, and seasonal chandan adornments. Consult the current mandir programme for event dates and darshan arrangements.
How to Reach
Vapi is the regional rail approach, followed by road travel to Silvassa and Athal. This is the verified Silvassa mandir, distinct from an unresolved imported listing labelled Swami Narayan Temple, Daman.
