About this temple
Radha Damodar Mandir is ISKCON’s Beach Road/Sagar Nagar centre in Visakhapatnam. Its deity name, congregational worship and coastal Hare Krishna Land address identify this particular temple. It should not be confused with Tirumala or a separate local Venkateswara shrine.
History
The centre belongs to the Krishna-consciousness movement inspired by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. A government-filed institutional note confirms ISKCON’s Sagar Nagar address and a separate Gokul Vanam proposal opposite the temple. A proposal is not evidence that every planned attraction has been completed. An exact local opening or consecration date was not verified.
Legends & Religious Traditions
Why the deity is called Damodara
The Bhagavata tradition tells how Yashoda bound the child Krishna with a rope to a household mortar after his mischievous butter-taking. Gaudiya Vaishnava teaching reads the episode as the unlimited divine freely accepting the bond of a devotee’s love. This explains the deity name; it is not a claim that the event occurred at Sagar Nagar.
The two arjuna trees
A connected scriptural episode describes Krishna dragging the mortar between two trees and releasing Nalakuvara and Manigriva from their tree forms. It belongs to the Krishna narrative celebrated in the tradition, not the modern building’s foundation history.
Kartika devotion
Damodara worship has a special place in Kartika devotional teaching. The name and observance connect the modern temple with the tradition’s sacred narrative without requiring an invented local miracle.
Rituals, Worship and Seva
Congregational chanting, deity worship and prasadam form the centre’s devotional setting. The institution’s seva page specifically names Radha Damodar deity service and flower-garland offerings. Current paid arrangements should be checked with the temple.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations
A general claim that the movement or centre has existed for over five decades is not used to infer a precise consecration year for the present temple. The Damodara stories are scriptural context, clearly separated from local history.
