About this temple
Belon Devi Temple in Belon village, Dibai tehsil, is dedicated to Sarva Mangala Devi, also known locally as Belon Bhavani. Navratri pilgrimage and Holi with palash flowers are reported features of its devotional life.
History
The temple’s own account preserves two traditions of reconstruction: one credits the Maharaja of Gwalior, while another credits Rao Bhup Singh. A secure construction year is not established by that account. The present shrine should therefore not be assigned an invented ancient building date.
Legends & Religious Traditions
Name tradition: Belon is associated with the older name Bilwan, explained through the bael-tree groves that once characterised the area. This is a traditional place-name explanation, not a verified construction date.
Festivals and Religious Significance
Navratri and Ram Navami attract pilgrims. The travel account also describes a local Holi tradition using tesu, the flowers of the palash tree.
How to Reach
Belon is near Narora in Bulandshahr district. Trawell gives approximate road distances of 58 km from Bulandshahr and 55 km from Aligarh and lists bus or cab travel. Confirm the actual route and current services.
Address and Location Details

Contradictory Accounts and Variations
The temple’s account explicitly gives different traditions for its rebuilding: Gwalior royal patronage and Rao Bhup Singh’s response to the Goddess’s dream instruction. These accounts have not been reconciled into a single documented chronology.
Verification Notes and Uncertainties
Reviewed 30 October 2026. The reconstruction accounts are temple tradition, not independently dated archaeology. A licensed small-format photograph of the Belon deity by Hiya494 has been uploaded; it is not an exterior architectural photograph.
