About this temple
Shoolini Mata is Solan’s presiding goddess, after whom the town is traditionally named. The temple’s worship extends into the streets during the annual Shoolini fair and the goddess’s palanquin journey.
History
The shrine is an established centre of the town’s family-deity tradition. Its own account describes the goddess’s enduring abode but does not document a securely dated original building campaign.
Legends & Religious Traditions
In the temple’s Shaiva account, Shiva manifests as Sharabha to calm Narasimha after Hiranyakashipu’s death. Parvati appears as spear-bearing Shoolini in Sharabha’s wing. This is one sectarian theological tradition, not a version accepted identically across all Vaishnava and Shaiva texts.
Rituals, Worship and Seva
During the fair the goddess is carried through town, spends two nights at her sister’s abode and returns on the third day. Community kitchens accompany the celebration.
Festivals and Religious Significance
Shoolini Mela takes place in June/Ashadha, with cultural events at Thodo Ground. General tourism descriptions mention a third-Sunday custom, but the official 2026 programme ran 26–28 June; use each year’s announcement.
How to Reach
The temple is on Shilly Road within Solan town. Allow for town traffic and procession restrictions during the fair.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations
The fair’s general customary description and actual annual dates can differ. Shoolini’s Sharabha narrative is explicitly a tradition of this shrine rather than an uncontested universal account.
