About this temple

Deotsidh is the hilltop cave shrine of Baba Balak Nath at Chakmoh in Hamirpur district, close to the Bilaspur boundary. The cave image, rot offerings and Chaitra pilgrimage define its living devotional tradition.

History

Government management began on 16 January 1987 under the Himachal Pradesh religious endowments framework. The trust is associated with Hamirpur district administration. That administrative date is separate from the much older sacred traditions of Babaji.

Legends & Religious Traditions

The Mata Ratno story is set at nearby Shahtalai. Babaji tended her cattle while meditating and received roti and lassi. When she demanded repayment after complaints about the cattle, the saint revealed the food preserved through his spiritual power. Devotees connect this episode with his renunciation and the cave at Deotsidh. This is a devotional narrative, not a dated biography.

Rituals, Worship and Seva

Devotees offer rot, a sweet flour preparation. Sunday is especially important and generally brings heavier attendance.

Festivals and Religious Significance

The district describes a month-long Chaitra mela, traditionally 14 March–13 April. Confirm the particular year’s arrangements rather than assuming every service follows normal-day access.

How to Reach

Chakmoh/Deotsidh is about 45 km from Hamirpur in the district guide. Road transport connects the shrine with nearby towns; the final approach includes hill paths and steps.

Accessibility and Senior Visitor Guidance

A separate viewing platform for women opposite the cave is described in the sacred-site account. Confirm current inner-cave rules with the trust before travel.

Seasonal Access and Visitor Safety

Festival routes separate incoming and outgoing pilgrims. Follow the designated lanes and current vehicle restrictions near Upper Bazar.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations

Shahtalai is in Bilaspur district and belongs to the Ratno narrative; the Deotsidh cave itself is in Hamirpur. They are related pilgrimage places, not interchangeable district locations.
