About this temple
Bhavishya Badri is the “future Badri” shrine at Subain or Subhain beyond Tapovan in Chamoli district. Its wooded mountain setting above the Dhauliganga valley and walking approach distinguish it from the main Badrinath temple. It is one of the Panch Badri.
History
The district identifies the place and its future-Badrinath tradition but does not establish a construction year or an independently dated founder. The shrine’s importance rests on its place in the Badri pilgrimage geography rather than a verified foundation inscription in the reviewed material.
Legends & Religious Traditions
One version says the weakening arm of the Narsingh image at Joshimath will fall, after which Jay and Vijay mountains will block the road and Vishnu will be worshipped here. State tourism instead names Nar and Narayan mountains. These are attributed religious prophecies, not predictions of an imminent geological event.
Religious and Cultural Significance
State tourism identifies Vishnu’s Narasimha form here. The name expresses a belief about future worship of Badrinath.
Sacred Geography and Natural Setting
The district places the shrine around 2,744 metres, in forest above the Dhauliganga corridor beyond Tapovan.
How to Reach
The district’s transport section gives Saldhar as a motorable approach from Joshimath and describes a six-kilometre trek. Walking remains part of its published approach.
Seasonal Access and Visitor Safety
State tourism describes winter closure and reopening with Badrinath. A general circuit description is not confirmation of the present day’s trail condition or opening ceremony.

Contradictory Accounts and Variations
The district page first describes a roughly three-kilometre track from a motor road but later gives six kilometres from Saldhar. These differing starting-point descriptions should not be turned into a guaranteed walking distance. The mountain names in the future-Badri story also vary between official accounts.
